Middle School

Middle School students are introduced to the basics of storytelling, giving them the foundations of the language for filmmaking. Areas of focus are media literacy, basic content creation, and an overview of digital media.

Community Learning Opportunities for Middle School Learners

Mosaic Education hosted an interactive workshop at the Digital Divas Conference, teaching 35 middle and high school students the process of video production.

High school students are exposed to digital storytelling tools and given opportunities to build upon their digital storytelling skills and take a deeper dive into the importance of media literacy.

Opportunities for High School students include:

  • Community film projects

  • The annual Mosaic Mobile competition

  • The annual Mosaic Event

  • A chance to take part in the Media Makers Youth Apprenticeship program

Collaborative Video Projects

Mosaic Education, in conjunction with Sister Cities International, brought students from the WMCAT Film and Video program together with students in Zapopan, Mexico, to create a short film that introduced their cities to each other.

Opportunities to Grow Beyond the Classroom

Beyond the classroom, we connect students to careers through internships, community connections, and more. The Mosaic Film Experience partnered with Wolverine Worldwide to offer a paid internship program in 2022, creating a  full-time career opportunity for an emerging creative. Nisa Brooks, an exceptional storyteller, turned the Social Media Content Creator internship at Wolverine Worldwide into her first full-time gig.

Mosaic Mobile

Searching for new and creative ways to engage your students? Mosaic Mobile is our annual mobile short film competition where high school students use mobile devices to shoot, edit, and enter their films. More than $2,000 in cash prizes is awarded to students each year, the largest prize awarded to student filmmakers. Mosaic Mobile is open to any student attending a high school.

Mosaic Mobile is about challenging the conventions of storytelling and encouraging students to tell their unique stories in innovative ways. Mosaic Mobile celebrates creative thinking and discovery while exploring the diverse world in which we live.

Mosaic Mobile winning films are screened at our annual Mosaic Event, where student filmmakers are celebrated by hundreds of their peers and professionals.

Why Mobile?

Low-income families experience digital inequality. For many, a mobile device is their only internet connection. 35% of low-income households in the US are under-connected.
