Zeeland West and Michigan State Students Win Momentum Film Challenge

The Mosaic Film Experience and Fifth Third Bank today announced Ashlee Peterson, Zeeland West High School, and Breanna Berry, Michigan State University, as winners of the first-ever Momentum Film Challenge. The contest required participants to shoot and edit their films on mobile devices and submit entries via TikTok. Each entry was also required to include the theme “what money means to me,” any form of currency as a prop, and the saying “momentum.”

A recognition ceremony was held at Fifth Third Bank’s downtown Grand Rapids branch on Friday, August 5. Winners received $530, a Fifth Third Bank prize pack, and an externship (college) or job shadow day (high school).“Our winners did their thing. We just gave them the opportunity to tell their story,” said Skot Welch, founder, Mosaic Film Experience. “Our focus has always been to empower our young people because they’re the next group of leaders who will be doing great things.”Ashlee’s short film provided valuable messages: do not take anything for granted and that money isn’t always what’s most important.“What’s most important are the relationships you build with the people around you,” Ashlee said. Ashlee was surprised and excited to have won and now plans to put most of her $530 winnings into savings.The college winner, Breanna Berry, is starting her third year at MSU, studying Digital Storytelling. Breanna also had a unique message in her film: money’s momentum can be lost if you don’t spend it wisely. Her winning film can be viewed here. Fifth Third Bank has been a supporter of the Mosaic Film Experience since 2019. And according to Marcus Jackson, vice president, community and economic development manager, Fifth Third Bank, this unique partnership will continue to bring new opportunities to local youth.

“The partnership between Fifth Third Bank and the Mosaic Film Experience was a unique opportunity that celebrates creative thinking and diverse perspectives,” Marcus said. “Everyone has a story. We enjoyed providing students with a platform share theirs.”
