Mosaic Film Experience and The Henry Ford’s inHub hosting digital storytelling workshop for educators
The Mosaic Film Experience and The Henry Ford’s inHub today announced a series of digital storytelling workshops for educators. Storytelling in the Classroom: Concept and Connection is a free, two-part series that will breakdown the digital storytelling process and help teachers effectively leverage technology in the classroom. The first session is on Saturday, February 19, and the second session is Saturday, February 26. Both workshops will take place virtually from 11 a.m. to noon.
“Students are digital natives and storytelling can be a practical way to bridge classroom learning and real-world experiences,” said Skot Welch, founder, Mosaic Film Experience. “Storytelling is an in-demand communication skill for 21st-century careers across all disciplines and industries.”Through inHub, The Henry Ford is working with educational partners to prepare learners for the 21st-century workplace.
“The global economic landscape is changing rapidly, and we must prepare learners from all backgrounds to address these challenges,” said Olivia Marsh, program manager, educator professional development, The Henry Ford. “One way this can happen is by supporting teachers and students with their learning goals through innovative approaches like project-based and collaborative group work that leverages technology.”Mosaic Film Experience education leads Mallory and Randy Strobl will facilitate both sessions. According to Mallory Strobl, media literacy and digital storytelling education profoundly impacts students’ ability to harness their creativity and develop critical thinking skills.
“Reframing how mobile devices are used and diving into media literacy helps students evolve from content consumers to conscious content producers,” Mallory said. “When digital storytelling is implemented in the classroom, students not only learn that they have a powerful tool in their pockets, but they begin to embrace their unique experiences, stories and voices.”Storytelling in the Classroom: Concept and Connection is free to attend and educators can choose to participate in one or both sessions.
