Grand Rapids Gears Up for a Night of Purple Funk

The Mosaic Film Experience, a nonprofit educational platform that empowers underrepresented youth to explore emerging and creative careers through the power of storytelling, will host its first-ever Purple Party on Friday, November 3, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, 101 Monroe Center St NW. The party will celebrate the musical legacy of the legendary Prince. Fans, enthusiasts and community philanthropists are invited to immerse themselves in a world of dance, nostalgia and funk. All proceeds from the evening will support Mosaic Film Experience programming.

“This isn’t your typical fundraiser. In addition to celebrating the catalogue of Prince and celebrating the vibrant and culture shifting world of funk, the Purple Party stands as a heartfelt tribute to our students. Every beat, every dance move, every dollar raised at this event propels our mission, nurturing the next wave of dynamic storytellers,” said Skot Welch, founder and president, Mosaic Film Experience.

The event's highlights include a specially curated playlist, echoing the era of Prince, Parliament Funkadelic, Silk Sonic, The Time, James Brown, along with contemporary songs by Lizzo and Beyoncé. Attendees will have the opportunity to savor a signature specialty cocktail and a unique menu inspired by Prince's favorite foods. Attendees will also discover a merchandise corner offering exclusive, purple-themed items and memorabilia.

A notable feature of the event is the presence of prominent industry figures. A representative from The Motion Picture Academy Museum (Oscars), the concept artists behind "Black Panther" and "Wakanda Forever" and several other film and digital media industry leaders, who are visiting Grand Rapids for Mosaic Film Experience students programming, will attend the Purple Party, offering attendees a rare chance for networking.

The Mosaic Film Experience, through its programs, provides young minds from underserved communities with platforms to explore and engage with storytelling mediums.

“At the Mosaic Film Experience, we're not just teaching skills; we're paving innovative pathways for students into emerging and creative sectors. By bridging the classroom-career divide, we ensure that in a world where storytelling and digital media prowess are paramount, our students are not only prepared for the future but are also empowered to amplify their distinct voices,” Welch said.
