Get ready for Mosaic Mobile 2019

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Our Mosaic Mobile film competition is back.Mosaic Mobile content is about challenging the conventions of a “film competition.” By using mobile devices to level the playing field, students can focus on storytelling through creativity, collaboration and critical thinking skills needed in content creation.

  • Mosaic Mobile is open to any student attending a Michigan high school or college/university in 2019.

  • Students will shoot, edit, and enter a two- to three-minute short film made entirely on a mobile device (phone or tablet).

  • Each student is allowed up to two short film entries.

  • Submissions will be accepted starting September 30 through October 11.

Each Mosaic Mobile film requires the use of a theme, prop, and saying. The three requirements are intentionally open-ended to encourage student’s interpretation and creativity.

Theme: Belonging What does it feel like to belong, or not to belong? What does it mean to belong? What gives you a sense of belonging?

Prop: SignsThis can be any type of sign, literal or figurative

.Saying: “I never thought of that.”This phrase can be spoken, written, or displayed in any way.

Credits must include names of the production crew, APPs/devices used, music/stock and archival footage/sound effects, either free or with copyright permission. The Mosaic Film Experience will award more than $2,000 in cash prizes for the first, second, third place for high school and college Mosaic Mobile categories. High school student films are also eligible for the Rick Wilson Memorial Prize, honoring the late Rick Wilson – Emmy award-winning journalist, storyteller, and impactful member of the inaugural team of The Mosaic Film Experience. After finalists are announced, audience voting for the Rick Wilson Memorial Prize will begin on October 24 and end October 28 at 11:59 p.m. EST. High school student finalist films will be screen in front of hundreds of students at the ninth-annual MFE Event on November 6 and 7 at the Wealthy Theatre. For our Mosaic Mobile college student award winners, we will be hosting a screening with Kevin Wilmott, Academy Award winner for best original screenplay in 2018 for BlacKkKlansman, on the evening of November 6.
